Jesus said that where His Spirit is there is liberty, yet too many Christ-followers today are not free. They have embraced Christian belief and faith, but the boldness, joy, and liberty of Christ do not yet mark them. Instead, they allow sin and its consequences to define their Christian faith and identity. In an age of “do more, be more,” they strive to reach impossible standards of religious and moral performance which lead them through endless cycles of religious success and failure. Just as Israel in bondage in Egypt, they need deliverance . . . an exodus. In The Father’s Heart: Another Exodus, twenty-something author Bobby Howard leads readers to that exodus; to leave behind the religious baggage they have carried and reclaim the faith that brings life as they embrace the heart of the Father.

The Father’s Heart: Another Exodus calls readers away from sin-focused theology into Christ-focused identity,” says Howard. “It addresses the vast disconnect between the emerging generation of the world (young adults) and the message of the Church. The message of the Gospel—as we present it—is not setting this generation free. My experience with traditional, denominational Christian religion over the years fostered a sin-centered religion and identity—of trying but always failing—that held me in bondage. An entire generation of teens and young adults share a similar experience. Only when I stepped into a Christ-centered, Holy Spirit empowered relationship with God did I know true freedom and liberty. That was my exodus. I wrote The Father’s Heart to help this young generation experience this exodus out of a sin-focused theology and into a proper understanding of their identity in Christ.”

The Father’s Heart: Another Exodus reveals…

…how the Church can reengage with a Millennial Generation that seems to have disengaged from the traditionally Western Christian worldview.

…the dialogue the Church must have with a young generation that has been hurt, let down, or burned out by its religion.

…how the Western, hierarchical Christian body can gain a voice among more progressive, globalized, and anti-authority millennial youth.

Millennials see a disconnect between the Church’s message and the Church’s fruit, so they have pulled away, often full of pain and disbelief. It is not that the Millennial Generation takes issue with the true message of Christ. For the most part, millennials acknowledge that Christ’s way is a very good way.  However, this young generation does take issue with Christ’s Church. Many millennials associate Christianity with judgment, hypocrisy, and exclusivity. They do not associate the faith with the radical love, grace, and inclusivity of Christ, because that has not been their experience. Millennials’ experience of the faith is marred by the highly inflammatory American culture wars and the hyper-politicization of Christian morality.

The Church’s task is to return to the basics of Christ’s message, in which there can be found no fault or hypocrisy.  His message of love and grace is the only message that can reconnect an overchurched, overexposed, and let-down Millennial Generation.  His is a message of grace and inclusivity, and it is a message that speaks value and identity to young people who don’t feel they have or want a place in organized religion.

Alan Platt, founder and leader of Doxa Deo Ministries, says: “Bobby Howard has not only put his finger on the right issues of our ‘religiosity,’ but also gracefully pointed us in the right direction toward our liberty and acceptance in Christ.”

Drawing from biblical truth, sound theology, astute cultural observations, and keen insights into the psyche of today’s young adults, Howard leads readers to an unforgettable encounter with God’s perfect love and unfathomable grace as they explore the depths of the Father’s heart. As readers revisit the cross, its good news message of grace will shine as brightly today as it did the day Christ was nailed to it. As they experience freedom from religion and moral performance, they will shed shame and condemnation and embrace their God-breathed identity and purpose in Christ.
